I love writing for Title19CT.com. For three years now I have worked to publish the latest news and information for families facing a Connecticut nursing home situation. I’ve been able to help many great families navigate the Connecticut Medicaid minefield over the years and am thrilled to report we average over 1,000 guests to Title19CT.com every month.

That is a lot people! I’ve always looked at Title19CT.com as a community resource for Connecticut families to get reliable and clear information and help. I know as an attorney a lot of information on Connecticut Medicaid is pretty well hidden; I can only imagine what someone on their own must encounter. With the continuously growing size of the Title19CT.com community I want to reach out to every visitor and make sure we provide what you are looking for.

This is your chance to get what you want from Title19CT.com and help other families that are probably looking for the same thing.

If you have any suggestions for improving Title19CT.com I welcome your comments in the space below.

If you came here looking for something and were not able to find it please make a note of what it was in the space below.

Here are some things to think about:

Do you want more reports on the latest court cases featuring Medicaid issues?

Would you like more information on pending changes to regulations at the Department of Social Services?

What is the best feature of Title19CT.com?

What is the worst feature of Title19CT.com?

Remember, comments below are public so do not put any personal information in the comment text. Thank you for helping improve Title19CT.com and contributing to our growing community.

I am proud of what this site accomplished in 2007. Starting with no visitors as all sites do and moving up to 600 visitors a month is great, and exceeded my expectations. I appreciate everyone that stops by and takes the time to get educated about Connecticut estate planning and elder law issues. I hope you find the information here valuable and will visit again.

The most popular posts of 2007 were:

I’m already working on making 2008 a great follow-up to what we accomplished in 2007. Stay tuned for details. Have a happy and healthy new year.

The next two months are going to be very exciting and will provide you with an excellent opportunity to make sure your estate plan works for you.

September is “Know Your Estate Plan” month. You won’t find it on any calendar except mine. Over the last few months I have met with an increasing number of new clients that come to me and 1) do not understand how their existing estate plan from another office works or 2) have different expectations from their estate plan from another office than what the documents actually say. This is a problem in my opinion, and I’m going to do something about it. Come back on September 1 for more information.

In October, my “Medicaid Protection Winter Workshop” will take place. This workshop is designed to prepare your family for nursing home costs that average over $9,000 each month in Connecticut. This is an excellent opportunity for families that want to protect their life savings from devastating nursing home costs to get educated and get started before it is too late. I’ll be posting additional information on the Workshop and how to reserve your spot in the coming weeks.

It took a while, but the Connecticut Department of Social Services finally got around to issuing its implementation regulations addressing the sweeping Medicaid reforms included in the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005. (That’s right, more than two years after the law was passed). I am presenting a seminar open to the public to discuss these latest regulations as well as an introduction to many of the common issues people run in to when considering applying for Medicaid benefits. Anyone that may apply for Medicaid nursing home benefits in the near future is encouraged to attend this event, especially married couples.

Some of the new regulations concern:

Extension of the lookback period;
The beginning date of the penalty period;
Undue hardship claim process;
Annuities and beneficiary designations;
Home equity limitations;
Treatment of interest in continuing care communities;
Treatment of promissory notes, loans, and mortgages;
Treatment of life estates.

The seminar is scheduled for June 28th from 5:30 – 6:30pm.
